The chief adviser to reach the 'best solution' in customs issue

Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser to the interim government, has expressed hope that positive progress will be made to solve the customs issue through negotiations with the US government.

“We are reviewing the matter,” he said. Since it is discussed, we will discuss and I am sure we can reach the best solution. '

Shafiqul Alam, the chief adviser, made this known on Thursday (April 7th), citing Professor Yunus.

Regarding the imposition of 5 percent tariff on importing Bangladeshi products, Shafiqul Alam said, “The whole issue is still in the beginning of the discussion. We are reviewing it and the steps we are taking, our relations with the United States will be strengthened in the days ahead. We will be able to go to a solution for both sides.”

Press Secretary expressed optimism and said, “We will do something so that the interests of both the United States and Bangladesh are protected. Bangladesh is continuing to contact the United States for this purpose.”

Earlier on Thursday, Shafiqul Alam wrote on his Verified Facebook page about increasing US tariffs on Bangladeshi products, “Bangladesh is reviewing the tariffs imposed on imported products from the United States.

The Press Secretary added, “The United States is a close friend of Bangladesh and our largest export destination. Since the Trump administration has taken over, we have been working together to increase trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.”

Shafiqul Alam said, “Our ongoing activities with the United States are expected to help solve the tariff problem.”

On Wednesday (April 2), local President Donald Trump announced the imposition of 5 percent tariff on imported products from Bangladesh as part of the new 'Risproper Tariff' policy of the country. In the same announcement, he announced the imposition of additional tariffs on almost all countries that are in trade with the United States.
