Azzi Fudd has officially joined the Dallas Wings, with the team introducing “The People’s Princess” at a press conference today, allowing reporters to grill her about being the No. 1 pick and playing in the WNBA.
With that, questions have persisted regarding Fudd’s off-court relationship with her former UConn Huskies teammate, Paige Bueckers. Much was made about their reunion before the Wings even announced her as their pick, and speculation continues about how they’ll navigate their dating situation now that they’re playing for the same professional basketball team.
When a reporter attempted to ask Fudd about that topic on Thursday, the Wings’ media person, Pam Flenke, promptly shut him down, indicating that while she understood the reason behind the question, their players wouldn’t comment on their personal lives.

The reporter who asked the question was Kevin Sherrington of The Dallas Morning News. After his question went viral in a social media video, he drew heavy criticism for asking that sort of question of an athlete rather than keeping the questions sports-related.
However, Sherrington addressed it in an article on Thursday, defending his right to ask a very relevant question and calling out the Wings for shutting down his attempt to get an answer from Fudd.
According to Sherrington, it’s historic that Fudd was the team’s No. 1 pick going to a team that featured someone she might still be in a relationship with.
Along with that, Bueckers was last year’s No. 1 pick and is Fudd’s former college basketball teammate, which already makes for quite a story.
Sherrington also added that he didn’t break any news by asking the question he did, since Bueckers had previously posted a TikTok video in which she mentioned she was dating Fudd. Since there hadn’t been as much mention about them dating in recent months, it would make sense to ask about their current situation.
He mentioned in his article that the significant aspect of the story is that having two people in a relationship, both on the court for the same team at the same time, could lead to issues, depending on how things stand between them.
Bueckers attended the UConn women’s Final Four game against South Carolina, in which her former team suffered an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Dawn Staley’s squad. During that game, Fudd performed poorly, raising concerns that she might not even be the first pick in the WNBA Draft.
Whether they were having relationship issues at the time, or weren’t even dating, is something they haven’t publicly addressed. Bueckers also attended this week’s WNBA Draft in New York City, where she cheered on her former teammate with other UConn teammates. However, there wasn’t much interaction between Buecker and Fudd.
Most likely, the two Wings stars will address their relationship, or lack thereof, when they feel the time is right, but it certainly makes for a curious situation when the players’ sports team shuts down questions about it.
