ACC to search the assets of former 5 ministers-state ministers

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating the illegal assets of five former ministers of the Awami League government and state ministers. There are allegations against them of abuse of power, recruitment and various irregularities.

Their wealth increased from 5 to 55 times in the election affidavit of the 12th Parliament. Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) says that in order to maintain the achievements of the student movement, we have to get out of the culture of influence.

Former state minister Shahriar Alam started business as a garment industry entrepreneur in 1995. In 2008, his debt was 76 crores and movable assets were 3 crores. In the affidavit for the 12th Parliament election, he had no debt in 2024. Wealth increased 55 times.

Shahriar Alam has been accused of taking various jobs by misusing his power while he was the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and paying the salaries of Indians working in his company through hundi.

Former State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain. He is accused of embezzling crores of rupees by recruiting teachers. There are also allegations of taking over land in the name of educational institutions and making businesses. His wealth has increased 29 and a half times in 5 years.

Mujibul Haque Chunna, former Minister of State for Labor and Opposition Chip Whip. In 2008, his wealth was 44 lakh 42 thousand rupees. It has increased 37 times in the affidavit of the 12th parliamentary election.

Kamal Ahmed Majumder's former state minister for industry in the Awami government has increased 5 times.

Allegation of commission trading in all development works of hilly areas against Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh. His wealth also increased 5 times.

Executive Director of TIB. Iftekharuzzaman said that the ministers of the previous government have built mountains of wealth through influence. If we cannot get out of this culture, all the achievements of the student movement will fail.
