Adviser Asif Mahmud urged not to block the secretariat

The north-eastern region of Bangladesh has been affected by severe floods. Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud urged not to block the secretariat in such a situation so as not to obstruct the work of the related organizations of the government.

He made this call in a post on the social media Facebook account on Thursday (August 22) at noon.

In a Facebook post, Asif said, 'Don't disrupt our activities by blocking roads and secretariats with 16-year deposit demands. All your demands will be heard when the overall situation of the country is normal.' He further said, 'All the relevant organs of the government are working with the help of the foresters. For example: If the adviser of the relief and disaster ministry is stuck on the road for 2 hours, facing obstacles to go to the secretariat, then how can he work for the flood victims? Wishing everyone's cooperation.'

Meanwhile, two people have died in floods in Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Brahmanbaria so far. One of the two is from Feni and one from Brahmanbaria. So far, 4 lakh 40 thousand 840 families have been waterlogged in these 8 districts.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has informed this information on Thursday. The ministry said that 50 upazilas of 8 districts were flooded. The number of affected unions is 357.

The ministry also informed that 29 lakh 4 thousand 964 people have been affected by the flood so far. A total of 1,534 shelters have been opened so far. Meanwhile, a total of 75 thousand 668 people and 7 thousand 459 cattle have been sheltered in the shelters. In the meantime, a total of 444 medical teams are operational to provide medical services in 8 districts affected by floods. Along with this, the relief distribution program is also going on.
