Attempt to shoot businessman, counterman stabs employee

There have been allegations of an attempt to shoot an auto-rickshaw hawker over a dispute in Dhaka's Dhamrai. In this incident, an employee of rival dis businessman Rakib was stabbed during the scuffle. The stabbed youth has been hospitalized for the past three days.

Dis businessman Mashiur Rahman Rakib filed a written complaint at Dhamrai Police Station on Tuesday (August 20) in this incident. The incident took place in Dhulivita area of ​​the upazila last Saturday (August 17) in the afternoon.

The stabbed Ismail Hossain (26) is a resident of Pathantola area of ​​Dhamrai municipality. The attacker, auto-rickshaw trader Abul Hossain, is a resident of the municipality's Kaliagar area.

Eyewitnesses said that for about 4-5 years, there was a dispute between the local DIS businessman Mashiur Islam Rakib and the autorickshaw seller Abul Hossain over the land business money. As a result of this, Abul attacked and vandalized Rakib's business on the night of August 5.

In response, Rakib along with 7-8 accomplices attacked Abul's autorickshaw garage in Dhulivita Palli Vidyut area around noon on August 17. At this time, Rakib tried to shoot Abul by pointing a firearm at his chest. But that time he failed to shoot.

Abul stabbed a person named Ismail Hossain (26) who came with Rakib during the scuffle. Due to this incident, everyone was scattered. Ismail was rescued and admitted to the hospital. However, he was sent to Dhaka as his condition was serious. He is under treatment in ICU in a private hospital in Dhaka for the last three days.

An eyewitness who did not want to be named said, 'I was working next door. At that time, hearing the sound of shouting, I went forward and saw Abul lying down. Rakib is pointing a gun at his chest. But could not shoot. At that time, Abul inserted a knife into Ismail's stomach. At that time, when people gathered there to prevent the scuffle, Rakib ran away.

Meanwhile, Mashiur Islam Rakib has filed a written complaint in the police station. He claimed in the complaint that Abul attacked and stabbed him while he was staying at the Dhulivita bus stand area.

Moshiur Islam Rakib said, 'Ismail works for me here. Abul stabbed him to death. He is now in a claw-to-death fight. We want justice for Abul.'

However, he refused to comment on the firearms.

Meanwhile, in protest of this incident, the residents of Dhamrai Upazila Parishad held a human chain and protested on Monday (August 19) around 12 noon to demand the punishment of Abul Hossain.

Ismail's elder brother Russell said that his brother used to work as Rakib's DIS business assistant from a rented house in Pathantola area. On the day of the incident, when he went to Dhulivita area, he beat up Abul Ismail and inserted a knife into his stomach. The local people rescued him while injured and took him to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex. He is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of a hospital in Dhaka.

Abul Hossain went to his shop and his house to find out about this and could not find him. Two of his mobile numbers were also found to be switched off.

No official in charge of Dhamrai police station declined to comment on the matter.
