Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was voted the NFL’s most overrated quarterback in a poll ESPN recently conducted of 103 NFL players. Allen was also voted as the best trash-talking quarterback in the league.
After Allen, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa tied as the second-most overrated quarterback. Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield was voted as the second-best trash talker, followed by New York Jets’ Aaron Rodgers in third.
Allen reacted to the results of the poll on social media, posting, “So you’re telling me, I was voted as the #1 … best trash talker??? Let’s goooooo!!!”
Turnovers are one of the primary reasons why Allen is looked at as overrated by many. During the 2023 season, Allen threw a career-high 18 interceptions and finished second in the NFL in most interceptions thrown. He threw an interception in 14 of the Bills’ 17 games, and fumbled the ball seven times.
While Allen is considered by many to be one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, there are plenty of people who do find him overrated or too turnover prone. Allen’s turnovers have certainly cost the Bills wins in the past, particularly during the Bills’ Week 1 loss to the Jets last year when he threw three interceptions.

Even with his sometimes mind-boggling turnovers, Allen does things that few other quarterbacks do. He holds a cannon of an arm, with the ability to throw down the field as well as anybody and from awkward platforms.

Allen is also one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the game. He has rushed for over 500 yards in five of his first six NFL seasons, and rushed for 15 touchdowns a season ago. He will rarely slide or go down on first contact, instead barreling through — or even hurdling — defenders to get more yards or into the end zone.
Allen’s risk-reward style of play has also proven largely successful for the Bills, who have made the playoffs in every season since Allen’s rookie year. The Bills have yet to get over the hump and win the Super Bowl with Allen, but they are frequently one of the final eight teams standing in January.
While his style of play can come under fire, there is little debate on Allen’s ability to talk trash. One NFC East player told ESPN, “He’s going to run you over and talk trash after he runs you over.”
