Does this kind of behavior deserve the army?

Recently, the Bangladesh Army played an unprecedented role alongside the students in the anti-discrimination student movement and made the revolution a success. Not only this, army personnel are deployed all over the country to provide support to the organized interim government and to control the prevailing chaotic situation in the country. In such a situation, it is highly desirable that the students as well as the general public help in their activities. But it appears that a number of students and college youth instead of helping the army and law enforcement personnel are obstructing their work and treating them with contempt. This is very undesirable and it is demoralizing the soldiers. If the proper measures are not taken and the students are not given the letters, such incidents will totally disrupt the objectives and activities of the interim government.

A recent incident is described as follows:

Around 7:45 pm on Tuesday evening, some ordinary students of Dhaka University engaged in a fight with the soldiers of the Azimpur army camp, including disrespectful behavior.

It is known that the incident started with the beating of a rickshaw puller by the students. The student had a heated exchange when the rickshaw puller commented on the student throwing a banana peel down the drain. At that time, 6-7 more students came and started beating the rickshaw puller, the rickshaw puller requested the help of the army members.

It is to be noted that a regular army patrol led by Sergeant Salim from the camp arrived there and tried to settle the matter. When the agitated students disobeyed them and tried to forcibly take the rickshaw puller to the Dhaka University campus, the patrol leader Sergeant Selim tried to take the rickshaw puller to the camp in their car. At one point, they got into an army pickup and started a ruckus and entered the army camp and tried to abduct the rickshaw puller. Even immediately 15-20 other students joined the previous 6-7 students and started using extremely violent behavior and insulting remarks towards the soldiers. In this situation, the commander of the unit was informed about the incident and immediately sent a police officer along with the assistant to intervene in the matter.

At the same time Captain Zidan and Captain Sadman (MO) of the said unit reached there along with the soldiers and tried to pacify the students when the students abused the soldiers. Not only that, when the deputy commander of the unit appeared there, he was also abused and abused. The vice-captain escorted the students out of the gate with the help of soldiers. It is said that two soldiers got excited and beat up a student. Then when the skipper came to the spot and tried to settle the matter, the students also behaved aggressively and disrespectfully with him. They demanded Captain Zidane be punished in front of them, including asking the captain to resign, and asked the soldier to be slapped.

In such a situation, the assistant proctor of the university came to the spot and tried to solve the matter but failed, he asked the captain to take necessary action within 24 hours. The situation was brought under control when the captain consulted the assistant proctor and promised to investigate and take action within 72 hours.

It is learned that the captain sat down with the proctor, fellow teachers and student representatives (4 students) and mediated the matter.
