Eagles Sign Former Second-Round Pick WR To Bolster Receiving Core

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a significant move before their Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

The Eagles have elevated veteran wide receiver Parris Campbell from the practice squad. This is the third time the Eagles have elevated Campbell from the practice squad this season.

Campbell has played in two games thus far this season and contributed six catches for 30 yards and a touchdown in 99 offensive snaps. The 27-year-old was elevated the previous two times due to injuries to the Eagles’ star wide receivers, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

With Brown and Smith back on the field for the Eagles on Sunday, he might not play much in Week 6. However, he could remain on the roster as a depth piece for the remainder of the campaign.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said on Friday what Campbell has meant to the team.

“Parris has done some really good things. I’ve seen Parris make plays for a long time in this league,” Sirianni said. “He plays with relentless effort. He plays physical. He plays tough. And when he’s gotten opportunities – I think he has (six) targets and (six) catches … so he’s taking advantage of the opportunities he’s gotten. And he’s fast, so he helps there.”

The Eagles initially cut the former second-round draft pick at the end of the preseason, but Sirianni convinced Campbell to stay. Now, Campbell could play a key piece for the Eagles moving forward.

Campbell was a second-round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Colts and played for Sirianni, the Colts’ then-offensive coordinator.

Aside from elevating Campbell, the Eagles also elevated offensive lineman Jack Driscoll for the Browns game. Driscoll has played his entire career with the Eagles, playing in 54 career games with Philadelphia. He’s a versatile offensive lineman who can play left tackle, right guard, and right tackle.

The Eagles will look to move above .500 after recording a 2-2 record before their Week 5 bye. They will now face a tough-defensive-minded Browns defense, although they sit at 1-4 through five games this season.

Campbell comes into the active roster as Sydney Brown (Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform) and wide receiver Ainias Smith (Injured Reserve; Designated for Return) are still sidelined. It could be another week until they are activated, but if Campbell can perform well, some tough decisions will be made for the Eagles.
