Former Minister of State for Information Mohammad A. Arafat detained – Bangladesh Diplomat

Former Minister of State for Information Mohammad A. Arafat has been detained. According to special sources, he was arrested from Gulshan on Tuesday.

During the recent anti-discrimination student movement, Kabi Nazrul Government College student Md. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with 47 other people are also accused in the case of Tahidul Islam's death. He has also been accused along with others in several other similar cases.

Awami League candidate Mohammad Ali Arafat won from Dhaka-17 seat in the 12th National Parliament Election. He won as the boat candidate without much competition. Later he took oath as Minister of State in Sheikh Hasina's new cabinet.

Arafat has been working as a think tank of Awami League for a long time. He became a member of the Central Executive Committee of Awami League in December 2022. He was elected Member of Parliament in July 2023 by defeating Hero Alam in Dhaka-17 seat by-election with 28 thousand 816 votes.

Muhammad Ali Arafat is an academic. He is Professor of Strategic Management and Policy at Canadian University of Bangladesh and Chairman of Suchinta Foundation.

He has written many articles in national and international media on various topics like economic development and challenges of Bangladesh, transit and connectivity, appropriate policy for power sector, war crimes justice, political development and democracy in Bangladesh etc.

Mohammad Ali Arafat has been active in politics for the past few years. He also briefed on various issues of the state since receiving the charge of Minister of State for Information in Sheikh Hasina's new cabinet. On August 4, the day before the fall of the last Hasina government, Mohammad A. Arafat informed the journalists about the tough stance of the government.
