Former Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Shah Kamal has been arrested.

He was arrested by the Detective Police (DB) on Saturday night from the DOHS in Mohakhali of the capital.

According to a small message sent by DMP media and public relations department, on Friday, DMP raided Shah Kamal's residence at F Block of Babar Road, Mohammadpur, on 29/2 and 3 roads and recovered Tk 3 crore 1 lakh. At the same time, foreign currency worth Tk 10 lakh was recovered. Among the foreign currencies found in his house were 3 thousand dollars, 1 thousand 320 Malaysian ringgit, 2 thousand 969 Saudi riyals, 4 thousand 122 Singapore dollars, 1 thousand 915 Australian dollars, 35 thousand South Korean yen and 199 Chinese yen.

As a result, he was arrested from DOHS in Mohakhali on Saturday night.

Shah Kamal was the secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief from March 2015 to June 2020. He retired on June 29, 2020. During his tenure, there were allegations against him of receiving illegal money from various sources including transfers, purchases, development works.

After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, he went into hiding.

A DB police source claimed that Shah Kamal was staying at a residence in Mohakhali to escape to India. A car of black glass was kept there.
