Gana Bhavan will be made into a museum as a symbol of the end of dictatorship: Adviser Nahid

Adilur Rahman Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Industry and Housing and Public Works, Asif Mahmud, adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Labor and Employment were also present at the time. They also informed about the plans around the public building.

Md. Nahid Islam said, “We have decided to turn this public building into a memorial museum of the July People's Uprising as a sign to the whole world that what a dictator, fascist statesman actually becomes and that the people are the real owners and power.” This decision has been taken by the government.

This was our initial visit today, he added. I spoke to those who are in charge here in the public works and architecture department. From them we took initial advice and expressed our desires, how we wanted to look. Besides, formation of formal committee has been ordered. The committee may be formed by tomorrow.

Adviser Adilur Rahman said in response to a question regarding various incidents including attacks and violence in different parts of the country, 'We are taking initiatives to prevent such incidents from happening. We have been saying from the beginning that this is not acceptable.'

Earlier, the interim government decided to make the Gana Bhavan a 'July Uprising Memorial Museum'. This decision was taken in the meeting of the advisory council of the interim government last Thursday.

Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan announced the decision of the Advisory Council meeting at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital yesterday evening.

He said, Ganobhaban will be opened for public. It will be established as the 'July Uprising Memorial Museum' to preserve the memory of the martyrs of the July Uprising and all the injustices committed during the past fascist era.

Adviser Asif Mahmud said that the action will be started soon. A museum will be established inside to preserve the memory of the coup.
