A disabled pedestrian named Babul Mia was injured by a baton of a policeman in a mobile court vehicle in Sherpur district town. Enraged by this incident, the locals blocked the road.
Eyewitnesses said that Babul Mia of Kasba area of the city was returning home by rickshaw on Tuesday afternoon. At that time, when the rickshaw reached the Kharampur intersection, it was hit by a mobile court microbus coming from the opposite direction. When Babul Mia protested, a policeman got down from the car and beat Babul Mia severely with an iron pipe in his hand. Apart from this, Babul Mia suffered severe head injuries due to the impact of the iron pipe.
In protest, the locals got angry and blocked the road. Later, other policemen came to the spot and assured the treatment of the injured Babul Mia and disciplinary action against the responsible policeman, they lifted the blockade.
In this regard, District Superintendent of Police Monalisa Begum said, I have come to know about the untoward incident with a disabled shopkeeper at Kharampur intersection. I have instructed the concerned to take departmental disciplinary action against that policeman.
