The pressure of passengers on the highway continues even late at night to spend the Eid holiday. Since Monday afternoon, the passengers could not handle this pressure and traffic congestion has been created on the highway. Somewhere there is a long traffic jam, somewhere else the vehicles are running haltingly. The people at home have suffered greatly due to this.
The two highways of Gazipur, Dhaka Tangail and Dhaka Mymensingh highways were empty on Monday morning as well. However, when the factories are closed in the afternoon, the passengers come in droves. Traffic jam has been created for about 10 km in three directions from Chandra Trimor on Dhaka-Tangail highway. The same situation is created in Chandana Chaurasta area. More than 1,000 policemen are working at different places to control the situation. However, they have to struggle to solve the traffic jam.
Same situation at Joydevpur railway junction in Gazipur. Special trains for garment workers as well as regular trains were overcrowded. These trains come full from Dhaka In the meantime, thousands of passengers from Joydevpur pushed and got on the train. Many people did not get a seat inside the train and climbed on the roof of the train and left for their destination. The station authorities say that many passengers could not be stopped even with barriers due to excessive pressure of passengers.
The members of the law and order forces in charge of the highway say that the pressure of vehicles on the highway has suddenly increased several times due to the holiday of the industrial factories in and around Gazipur. Due to which the vehicles are moving slowly from Chandraratri intersection. This has led to long queues on Nabinagar road in Kaliakoi.
Traffic jam has been created from Chandana intersection to Kaliakair bypass of Dhaka-Tangail highway. Traffic is stuck in all places for hours. Even if there is sometimes a traffic jam, the transport is moving slowly. Many people are walking to different points without getting a bus.
Traffic congestion has been created at 14 points in an area of about 40 km from Joydevpur intersection to Jainabazar on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Cars reached Joydevpur intersection area from Dhaka via Abdullahpur. After that, traffic jams were created in Salna, Rajandrepur, Hotapara, Bhabanipur, Memberbari, Bagher Bazar, Gargaria New Bazar, Gargaria Masterbari, One C&B Bazar, Ansar Road, Mauna Chowrasta, Avdar Mor, MC Bazar, Nayanpur Bazar, Jainabazar. Drivers and helpers of long-distance vehicles blame autorickshaws, short-distance minibuses, buses waiting for passengers at highway junctions, CNG trucks and pickups as the cause of traffic congestion.
North Bengal-bound passenger Sanwar Hossain said that it took more than 3 hours to reach Pallividyut from Chandna Chowrasta. I will go to Nato. I doubt whether I can go all night today. Sehri should be done on the road. I did not realize that there would be such a traffic jam.
Shahadat Hossain, OC of Naojo Highway Police Station, said that since Gazipur and nearby factories are closed, traffic pressure has increased greatly since noon. Due to which there is a line of vehicles from Chandra towards Nabinagar and Chandra Gazipur road. We are trying to maintain normal traffic flow.
