Injured dolphin floated in Patuakhali river

An injured dolphin has floated in the river of Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali. This dolphin of Stenella attenuata species is 8 feet long and 1.5 feet wide.

On Sunday (June 16) around 3:30 pm, it floated in Andharmanik river near Jalalpur village of Nilganj union of upazila. The dolphin has injuries on its face and various parts of its body. After receiving the news, the dolphin was rescued and kept in a pond in Jalalpur area by the members of the Dolphin Protection Committee. Kalapara team members of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali were present at this time.

On Thursday (June 13) afternoon, a live bottlenose dolphin, measuring 5 feet in length, surfaced in the same area. Later that evening, Kalapara team members of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali released it in Sagar Mohana.

Animal Lovers of Patuakhali's Kalapara branch team leader Rakayet Ahsan said that local residents saw the dolphin after it floated in the tidal water. On being informed, their team members and members of the Dolphin Protection Committee rescued it and kept it safe in the pond. The dolphin has injury marks on various parts of its body.

Roman Imtiaz Tushar, team leader of the Dolphin Protection Committee, said that marine animals are dying day by day due to the destruction of the sea environment. The scientific name of the dolphin alive today is pantropical spotted dolphin. It is a dolphin of the world's temperate and tropical oceans.

He said, it has been given first aid. If it recovers a bit, the sea will be freed.
Monirul Islam, range officer of Kalapara Forest Division, said that the rescued dolphin will be kept under observation and released back into the river.
