A 14-km long traffic jam has been created on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway during the holidays. As a result, passengers and drivers of various transports have suffered greatly. This traffic jam was seen at various points from Sanarpar to Langalband area on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at 10 am on Friday (August 30).
Passengers and drivers said that it took them more than 1 hour to cover a distance of only 10 minutes. Besides, children and old people are suffering more from the intense sun from morning. Apart from this, the drivers of various public transport and goods transport including buses, trucks and covered vans are also suffering due to being stuck in the traffic jam for hours.
A bus passenger named Saiful Islam said, I boarded the bus from Shimrail to go to Comilla for an urgent job. I gasped for a long time in heavy traffic on the highway. So I changed my decision to go to Comilla and am going back home.
A bus driver named Abdur Rahman said that there has been severe traffic jam on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway for the past few days. Having to stop at the same place for hours in a jam. I suffered the same condition on Friday holiday too. The 6 to 7 minute journey from the signboard to Shimrail took an hour due to traffic.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanchpur Highway Police Rezaul Haque said that around 7 am, a vehicle broke down on the highway in Langalband area, causing disruption to traffic. Besides, a large number of trucks are moving with relief goods for the flood victims since night. Besides, as it is a holiday, the private cars of common people are plying more. As a result, traffic congestion has occurred due to the pressure of various types of vehicles.
