The leave of the officials and employees of all ministries, including the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, has been canceled to deal with the disaster and stand by the affected people. State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mohibbur Rahman gave this information.
He said this at the end of the inter-ministerial disaster management coordination committee meeting in the conference room of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at the secretariat on Sunday (May 26).
The state minister said that more than 8 lakh people have already come to the shelter. The rest are invited to come. Schools in coastal areas will remain open for the time being but classes will be closed. Besides, the state minister also announced the closure of the Bangabandhu Tunnel from Sunday evening (May 26) to Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has asked Payra and Mongla seaports to display distress signal number 10 and Chittagong and Cox's Bazar seaports to display distress signal number 9 to avoid damage to cyclone Remal.
The cyclone is likely to move further northwards and cross Sagar Island (West Bengal) Khepupara coast by Mongla today (26 May) evening/midnight. Heavy rains with gusty winds have started in the coastal areas of Bangladesh due to the impact of the front of the strong cyclone.
