A girl named Jiku Chakma (14) was killed when a pickup van overturned in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati. Seven others were injured in this incident. The accident took place on Monday (April 15) in Kochuchari area of Marishya Majhipara border road of the upazila.
Deceased Jiku Chakma is the daughter of deceased Teuton Chakma of Mahalchari Upazila of Khagrachari.
Priya Bikash Chakma, a member of Baghaichari Union Parishad, said that a group of 20 devotees were returning from Baghaichari in Rangamati to Mahalchari upazila in Khagrachari from Milanpur Samok Mark Bhavna cottage in a pickup van. On the way, several people were injured on the spot when the pickup lost control and overturned in Kochuchhari area of Marishya Majhipara border road.
Later, the locals rescued the injured and took them to the Baghaichhari Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared Ziku Chakma dead. All the victims are residents of Mahalchari upazila.
Confirming the matter, Baghaichhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ishtiaq Ahmed said, the injured are being treated. The body was brought to the police station. Legal action will be taken in this case.
