A cultural organization named 'Ranan' has planted around 1000 palm tree saplings on the road adjacent to Sheikh Hasina Bridge over Dharla River in Fulbari Upazila of Kurigram district to reduce the risk of lightning.

On Thursday (April 4), Kurigram District Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Arif inaugurated the palm tree planting program organized by cultural organization 'Ranan' of Begum Rokeya University.

Kurigram Police Superintendent Al Asad was the chief guest. Mahfuzul Islam. At this time, the president of the organizing organization 'Ranan', Professor of Bengali Department of Begum Rokeya University, was also present. Tuhin Wadud.

Among others present were Fulbari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rehenuma Tarannum, Acting Police Officer Pranakrishna Roy, Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority Kurigram Zone Assistant Engineer Alamgir Kabir, Director of Nature Organization Green Eco Sanjay Chowdhury.

Varendra Multipurpose Development Authority has assisted the organization in its sapling programme. Five thousand palm seeds were planted on the same road three years ago. They are growing.

Professor Dr. Tuhin Wadud said that due to climate change, the risk of lightning has increased in the country. Many people lose their lives during monsoon season. Meanwhile, if there are palm trees, there is less risk of lightning in that area. For this reason, an initiative has been taken by the organization to plant palm trees. Palm trees will be planted in other areas in the future.
