Rice disappeared from food warehouse in Munshiganj, food inspector arrested


Upazila Food Inspector Syed Safiul Azam has been arrested by police on the charge of removing 250 metric tons of rice from Rasulpur food warehouse in Ghazaria of Munshiganj in the dark of night.

Police detained him for questioning on Thursday (March 21) afternoon. The market value of the removed rice is more than 1 crore 15 lakh rupees. When the matter became known, a great sensation was created in the area.

Ghazaria Upazila Food Control Officer Anwar Parvez said that on Thursday afternoon, it was seen that the administration has sealed building No. 4 of the food warehouse. No vehicles from outside and those associated with food warehouses are temporarily prohibited from entering the food warehouse area. About 250 MT of rice has been removed from the warehouse.

He also said that after assuming responsibility in this upazila, I visited Rasulpur food warehouse on March 19. Meanwhile, during the inspection of Building No. 4, I found the quantity of rice stored was very less. The amount of stocked rice is supposed to be 431 metric tons but in reality much less is available. If I doubt the matter, I make sure that most of the sacks of rice have been removed from here. There is no signature in the warehouse attendance book since March 12. I informed the matter in written form to my superior authority and upazila executive officer. A food inspector has been brought under this incident. We are investigating if anyone else is involved in this incident.

Gazaria Upazila Executive Officer Mr. Kohinur Akhtar said about the matter, the newly joined Upazila Food Control Officer informed me about the matter in writing. A large discrepancy was found in the quantity of rice stocked in the warehouse. Syed Shafiul Azam, food inspector in charge of the warehouse, has been taken into police custody. The process of filing the case is going on.
