Dhaka Metropolitan Traffic Police has requested the residents of the capital to leave for home immediately after the office break to avoid severe traffic jam before Iftar. Additional Police Commissioner of DMP made this request in a press conference on traffic management monitoring and guidance on Thursday (March 21). Munibur Rahman.
In the press conference, he said that although the office closes at 3:30 pm in the month of Ramadan, it can be seen that most of the people leave for home before 5:30 pm. This leads to unnecessary traffic congestion at important intersections in the city. In the current reality of the metropolis, the other lanes have to be temporarily closed for the traffic of any one lane at the intersection of four or three roads. The traffic jam becomes severe. There will not be so much pressure if people leave for home after office leave.
He said that the traffic department is taking strict measures so that no businessmen can sit on the footpaths and roads during the month of Ramadan. Apart from this, parking of cars on the side of important roads reduces the space for traffic, parking of passenger buses at turning points without stopping at designated stops often leads to traffic jams – measures are being taken in these matters as well.
He said that traffic congestion is increasing due to non-observance of heavy traffic in Dhaka city, ongoing renovation work on various roads, crossing roads without using foot overbridges. The official of the traffic department urged everyone to be aware of this.
