Sharfuddaula Ibn Shahid Saikat got a place in the elite panel of ICC as the first Bangladeshi umpire. ICC informed this information in a press release today.

The decision was taken during the ICC's annual review and selection process. The decision to elevate Saikat from the ICC International Umpire Panel to the Elite Panel was taken by a selection panel comprising ICC General Manager (Cricket) Wasim Khan, former player and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar, retired New Zealand umpire Tony Hill and consultant Mike Riley.

Earlier, Saikat represented Bangladesh as an umpire for the first time in the ODI World Cup held in India last year. Where he proved his decision making skills. After that, he became the first Bangladeshi to officiate the match in a neutral series. Umpire Saikat officiated in the Australia-West Indies series last January.

Saikat, who has made multiple achievements in the history of Bangladeshi umpiring, has officiated 13 Tests, 85 ODIs and 59 T20 matches in international cricket so far. He also holds the distinction of being the first Bangladeshi umpire to officiate 100 matches in men's international cricket.
