See Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s Teen Kids All Grown Up

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s teens made their red carpet debut in honor of the premiere of their mom’s new movie.

The Simple Life alum, 42 — who stars in the remake of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead — attended the Los Angeles premiere of the film on Tuesday, April 2, with Madden, 45, and their daughter Harlow, 16, and son Sparrow, 14, in tow.

The family of four, who also posed alongside Nicole’s dad, Lionel Richie, his girlfriend, Lisa Parigi, and Nicole’s mom, Brenda Harvey, color-coordinated in all-black ensembles.

Nicole wore a little black dress by Schiaparelli that featured ornate gold detailing at the neck, pairing the dark gown with a dramatic smoky eye and a slicked-back updo. Madden, who wed the House of Harlow designer in 2010, went with a more casual vibe for his fit, donning an oversized black jacket over a graphic tee, which he wore with dark pants and a black hat.

Harlow — the spitting image of her mom — wore her honey-blonde hair down in loose waves, matching a black tube top with leather pants. Sparrow posed next to her in a black polo shirt and charcoal jeans, accessorizing with a chain necklace and showing off his curls.

While both Nicole and Madden keep their children’s lives as private as possible, the proud parents occasionally share funny anecdotes on social media or give parenting updates in interviews.

In August 2020, Nicole shared a text from one of her children who had found of video of their mom acting wild during a bachelorette party.

“Mommy…,” one of the kids texted her, alongside a video of Nicole using a cat filter on Snapchat to make a double (and entirely NSFW) entendre.

“HELP! I’m the mom of pre-teens and my past posts have come back to haunt me!” Nicole captioned the screenshot.

Last year, Madden revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show that Harlow and Sparrow make it “easy” to be a parent.

“We got lucky with our kids. They’re easy. I always tell my kids, ‘You make it so easy to be a dad.’ They’re just good kids, they really are,” he told Barrymore. “They’re great, and I think they’re like their mom.”

While Nicole and Joel’s kids are solidly in their teenage years, Joel’s twin brother and Good Charlotte bandmate, Benji Madden, just welcomed his second child — son Cardinal — with wife Cameron Diaz. (Benji and Diaz are also parents to daughter Raddix, 4.)

As for the name inspiration — both Sparrow and Cardinal share a bird theme — Nicole revealed at the Don’t Tell Mom premiere that she thinks the similar monikers were part of an unspoken twin rule between the brothers.

“I think it’s just a twin thing — who knows?” she told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday.
