'The brother was martyred for the country, everyone should pray for him'

Suman Rahman Anik (20), who was shot during the anti-discrimination quota movement in Madhavadi, Narsingdi, died. He died on Friday (August 23) morning while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in the capital. This was confirmed by his elder brother Julhas Mia.

The deceased Suman is the son of deceased Hasen Ali of Siddiknagar Mohalla of Madhavadi Paur. He was a student of the local Jalpatti Jamia-e-Mdadia Dakhil Madrasa.

Talking to the family members of the deceased, it is known that Suman is the youngest among 6 brothers and 3 sisters. He is scheduled to appear in the Dakhil examination next year from a local madrassa. Besides studying to support the family, he along with his brothers used to sell vegetables in the local market.

On the first day of the curfew imposed by the government on the anti-discrimination quota movement on July 20, he left home and participated in a protest march with his friends at the old bus stand area of ​​Madhavadi on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. At one point he was shot in the stomach when the police opened fire to disperse the protesters. The bullet entered his stomach and exited through the back. He was rescued in critical condition and was first admitted to a local hospital and later admitted to Kurmitola Hospital.

He underwent three surgeries in this incident. Recently, the doctors said that he will have to undergo another surgery due to an infection in his stomach. He also advised to take them out of the country for better treatment. He was brought to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital from Kurmitola last Wednesday afternoon. He died there on Friday morning.

Julhas Mia, elder brother of the deceased, said that the brother died in a 33-day fight with my death. He suffered a lot. I saw everything before my eyes. We are poor people, even if we don't need much money to get treatment in government hospitals, we have to struggle to buy medicine. The brother was martyred for the country. Everyone will pray for him that God will grant him heaven.
