Although 53 years of independence have been completed, the family members of the brave freedom fighter Shaheed Shamchul Haque (Shamchul Huda) remain in the neglect of Fulpukuria village of Baishgaon Union of Comilla's Manoharganj Upazila.
Martyr Shamsul Haque sacrificed his life for the liberation of the country but his family members are not getting the least respect. In other words, no one keeps track of them. Even on various national days, the family members of martyr Shamchul Haque are neglected.
Finally, on the great independence day of March 26, Manoharganj upazila administration initiated the family of the martyred freedom fighter, war casualties and brave freedom fighters, but the family of martyr Shamchul Haque was not given the least respect. Even the martyr's family was not even invited to the event. In this incident, there is suppressed anger among the martyr's family and their relatives and local people.
Shahid Shamchul Haque alias Samchul Huda is the son of late Bande Ali Mir of Mir village of Phulpukuria upazila. Among the four siblings, Shahid Shamchul Haque was the eldest. He served in the Pakistan Army during the War of Independence. At that time, he jumped into the freedom war with the illusion of the country.
Manoharganj Upazila was established in 2005; Earlier it belonged to Laksam Upazila of the district. Former Deputy Commander of Laksam Upazila Muktijodha Sangsad, brave freedom fighter Sofikur Rahman said, Shamchul Haque Bhai was a brave freedom fighter. He was martyred fighting for the country. His body was buried in a mass grave in Kasba. His name is still there. The fact that Shaheed Shamsul Haque sacrificed his life for the freedom of the country should be known to the new generation. In this regard, the role of the local upazila administration and upazila freedom fighters is important. But after 53 years of independence, it is sad that the martyr's family is neglected.
Syeda Saira Khatun, younger sister of Shahid Shamshul Haque alias Samshul Huda, said, “My brother gave his life for the country.” My brother was a perfect youth at the time of independence. At that time he was the main support of our family. Our family was supported by my brother's earned income. After my brother's martyrdom, my father's family went through a lot of trouble. My brother has no children. The wife later got married elsewhere.
Syeda Saira Khatun expressed her sorrow and said, it has been 53 years since the country became independent; But even today we do not get the minimum respect. It hurts us a lot. In exchange for their lives, the country became independent; No one keeps track of their family members. So my brother gave his life for?
Ali Akbar Mir, the younger brother of Shahid Shamsul Haque, said, “No one listens to us.” In 2021, the Ministry of Liberation War has built a grave in front of our house as a memorial to my brother. Contractors and workers have built it and left. But I have not seen anyone from upazila administration and upazila Mukti Jodha Sangsad till date.
Abdur Rahman, the only nephew of Shahid Shamsul Haque, said, I am a child of Shahid's family; I am proud of this identity. But sadly, till today no one from upazila administration and upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad has looked for us as martyr family. Even on important national days like Independence Day and Victory Day, none of our family is remembered. On March 26, the upazila administration felicitated the family of the martyred freedom fighter; We were not invited. So who was given the reception? According to my knowledge, there are only four martyr families in the entire upazila; We are also neglected.
He also said that not only this year but every year such incidents are happening. No one is looking for us. Due to which the new generation does not even know about the sacrifice of martyr Shamchul Haque for the country.
When asked about this, the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Ujala Rani Chakma said that the former commander of the Upazila Freedom Fighters Association, Abdul Aziz, saw the matter of inviting the martyred freedom fighters' families and brave freedom fighters of Manoharganj upazila. If there is any problem in the application, I can confirm it by talking to him. Also, if the family members of the martyred freedom fighter Shamsul Haque contact us, we can confirm the matter.
When asked about this, the former commander of the Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad, Vir Muktijoddha Abdul Aziz said, “I am not sure whether there is any heir of martyr Shamsul Haque or not.” If there are any heirs they can contact us. Then we will invite them to all subsequent events.
