The former Acting Chief Engineer of DSCC lost his job

Ashikur Rahman, the former Acting Chief Engineer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) came under discussion and criticism for various reasons after the fall of the government led by Sheikh Hasina in the anti-discrimination student movement. He was dismissed on August 15 after the fall of the government. The order of suspension has been revoked and he has been relieved from service.

This information was informed in a circular on Saturday (September 7). Before this, engineer Ashiqur Rahman voluntarily resigned in the face of fire from BNP leaders and workers after the change of power. Later, he was temporarily suspended by the South City Corporation (DSCC) on various charges.

According to the dismissal notification, Ashiqur Rahman, Additional Chief Engineer, currently Acting Chief Engineer, Dhaka South City Corporation, has been temporarily suspended from service as per rule 55 (1) of Dhaka South City Corporation, Employee Employment Rules, 2019 issued on August 15. . His order of suspension was revoked and he was discharged from the charges.

Incidentally, after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, in the face of the student uprising, the officers and employees of the City Corporation started a movement to demand the removal of Ashikur Rahman. Under such circumstances, he applied for voluntary retirement on August 13. That application was not accepted. He was suspended from the corporation the next day citing the capital offense of neglect of duty, misconduct, inefficiency and corruption. In addition, an investigation committee has been formed from the Ministry of Local Government regarding the complaints against this official.

Among them, hundreds of BNP leaders and activists came to Nagar Bhaban with engineer Ashikur Rahman on September 2. It is known that all of them are followers of engineer Ishraq Hossain. It was led by Mukitul Hasan Ranju, a former member of the Dhaka Metropolitan South Juba Dal, Mehdi Hasan Litu, a former leader of the Volunteers' Party, Arifuzzaman Prince of the Workers' Party and others.

It has been reported that this engineer, who was dismissed on corruption charges, was the director of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's office. Besides, he was a very confidant of Sheikh Hasina's sister Sheikh Rehana. Until the dawn of August 5, he used to dominate the Nagarbhaban under the influence of Awami League. There are various allegations against him including irregularities in the construction project of Mayor Hanif flyover, city center construction project, recruitment trade in the corporation.
