The historic Six Points Day is celebrated


The historic Six Points Day was celebrated on Friday through various programmes. On this day in 1966, the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced the beginning of a nationwide intense mass movement in favor of the 6-point demand of the Bengali nation's liberation charter. On this day, 11 Bengalis including Manu Mia, Shafiq and Shamsul Haque were martyred by police and EPR members in Tongi, Dhaka and Narayanganj during the strike called by Awami League.

Since then, under the leadership of Bangabandhu, the subjugated Bengali nation moved towards the mass uprising of 1969. Later, the historic 6-point systematic movement gradually became the Bengali freedom struggle. As part of the program, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman kept in front of the Bangabandhu Bhavan on the 32nd road of Dhanmondi in the capital on Friday morning.

After placing a wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation at 7 am, the Prime Minister stood in silence for a while as a sign of deep respect to the memory of the great architect of freedom.

Later, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina along with the senior leaders of the party laid wreaths on Bangabandhu's portrait as the party chief.

At this time Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, member of the presidium Dr. Abdur Razzak, Kamrul Islam and Dr. Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Joint General Secretary AFM Baha Uddin Nashim, Organizing Secretary Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam and SM Kamal Hossain, Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Information and Research Secretary Dr. Salim Mahmud, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Abdus Sabur, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Publicity and Publication Secretary Syed Abdul Awal Shamim and others were present.

Earlier, national and party flags were hoisted at party offices across the country at sunrise as part of the day's programme. After paying tribute on behalf of Awami League, the leaders and workers of various parts of the party and affiliated organizations paid tribute to the portrait of Bangabandhu. At this time, Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League, Awami Jubo League, Awami Volunteer League, Krishak League, Mahila Awami League, Jubo Women League, Jatiya Sramik League and other parties and affiliated organizations of the party paid tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Also Bangladesh Chhatra League, Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Jubo League, Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami Volunteer League, Dhaka University Chhatra League, Dhaka College Chhatra League, Bangabandhu Parishad paid tribute to the portrait of Bangabandhu. On the occasion of the day, Bangladesh Awami League organized a discussion meeting at the Dhaka District Awami League office at Tejgaon at 3:30 pm.
