The lake dried up due to drought, thousands of fish died

A lake in the North American country of Mexico has partially dried up due to drought. And thousands of fish died because of it. The phenomenon is considered to be a dangerous effect of global climate change.

China's state news agency Xinhua reported this information in a report on Thursday (June 13).

Local authorities said on Wednesday that the water in Lake Bustillos had dropped to 50 percent of its normal level. Which means the pollutants have made the situation dangerous for the species living in the water of the lake.

Dead fish started piling up in mud created by a fissure under the lake a week ago. And by Wednesday, the stench spread throughout the area. Fearing the spread of disease in the emerging situation, workers clean the rotting remains of the lake.

Overall, several cities, including Mexico's capital, are seeing high temperatures. Temperatures in the country have exceeded all-time records.

Health authorities in the North American country say 125 people have died in the current hot season, which began in mid-March.
