Human rights organization Adhikar is publishing a list of people extrajudicially killed by security forces in different areas in Dhaka and outside Dhaka on May 5 and 6, 2013, centered on the Hefazet Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel of the capital.

The list was published on the rights page on social media Facebook on Monday (August 19).

The agency said it conducted a fact-finding mission on indiscriminate killings by security forces in 2013 and published a report citing 61 deaths. Due to the publication of that report, the Awami League government filed a case under Section 57 of the Restrictive Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, 2006 (Amended 2009) against the then Secretary of Rights Adilur Rahman Khan and the current director of the organization ASM Nasir Uddin Elan.

The organization also said that since 2013, the fascist Awami League government began a massive crackdown on rights and its leaders through repression, surveillance, harassment by authorities and negative propaganda by pro-government media. After more than a decade of judicial harassment, on September 14, 2023, Dhaka Cyber ​​Tribunal Judge AM Zulfikar Hayat pronounced the verdict and sentenced Adilur Rahman Khan and ASM Nasir Uddin Elan to two years with a fine of Tk 10,000 under the ICT Act for publishing a true investigative report on extrajudicial killings. Imprisonment.

Adhikar called on the interim government to immediately set up an independent commission of inquiry headed by a Supreme Court judge to bring the culprits to justice through an impartial investigation into the extrajudicial killings that took place on 5 and 6 May 2013.
