Leaders of Bangladesh Secondary Assistant Teachers' Association condemned and protested the decision to keep educational institutions open next Saturday (May 4). They demanded to maintain the holiday. Otherwise, the leaders of the association warned of agitation. On Thursday (May 2), the president of the central committee of the organization Jahangir Hossain and the general secretary. Noor Alam protested in the Biblab statement.
They said that there is a kind of tussle over the holidays of educational institutions, which has led to a ridiculous situation. This is destroying the environment of education. Learning-teaching activities are being disrupted.
Meanwhile, the public relations officer of the Ministry of Education said that teaching activities will continue in the classrooms in all secondary level educational institutions as usual from Saturday. Abul Khair. However, this official later said that classes in secondary schools were closed in some districts.
Regarding the start of classes on Saturday, the teachers said that no disaster was caused by teachers or students. Considering the situation, educational institutions may be temporarily closed. This has happened before. Due to this, it is not desirable to reduce the scheduled leave.
They also said that such a decision of the ministry is nothing but disrupting the real purpose of education. Because students can complete the lesson related 'homework' during scheduled holidays and weekends. Following the academic calendar, various plans and measures are taken including taking treatment of teachers-students-parents related to education, visiting relative's house, rituals and rest. Taking a sudden decision on vacation is disrupting normal life. As a result, social, physical, emotional and economic losses are also being experienced.
Leaders complain that teachers and students have to sit in educational institutions on national days, while those days are holidays for others. Not only this, last year's summer vacation and winter vacation were canceled on the pretext of filling the learning gap. This year, the Ramadan holiday has also been shortened, which is not considered at all. These decisions are an expression of indifference.
The leaders strongly demanded the Prime Minister to immediately maintain the Saturday holiday and adjust the scheduled holidays taken away from the previous days. Otherwise, if the demands are not met, they have warned of strict agitation.
