He sustained the season-ending injury minutes before halftime and was visibly frustrated as he left the matchup. Campbell walked off the field on his own and headed to the locker room with training staff.

The third-year was one of the breakout Titans players in the preseason. Throughout Tennessee’s first two preseason games, the linebacker posted 16 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and a sack.

Campbell’s frustration after sustaining the torn ACL is no surprise given injuries have hampered the linebacker throughout his NFL career. Throughout his first two seasons in the league, he has only played in four regular-season games.

Campbell was a sixth-round draft pick in 2022. He was sidelined for his entire rookie season by a knee injury. The knee issue then returned in his second season.

In 2023, he was cut and later re-signed to the Titans practice squad.

This is the second linebacker the Titans have lost for the entirety of the 2024 season. Garett Wallow was also sustained a season-ending injury.

“We’ve taken two pretty significant hits at the linebacker spot with Wallow and Chance,” Callahan told the media.

The Titans’ linebacker depth is already weak. A number of Tennessee linebackers have already sustained injuries, including Garret Wallow, Cedric Gray, Otis Reese IV, Luke Gifford, and JoJo Domann.

Wallow tore his pectoral muscle at the beginning of August. Gray missed the majority of training camp with a nerve issue in his shoulder. There is no timetable for his return.

The options for backups to starting linebackers Jack Gibbens and Kenneth Murray II are quickly dwindling. To make matters worse, the Titans lost Azeez Al-Shaair in the offseason to AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans.

Campbell was making a case to replace Al-Shaair which makes his injury all the more heartbreaking.

He was making significant progress in training camp this year. All signs pointed to Campbell playing a role for the Titans this season but the linebacker will have to wait until 2025 to suit up for Tennessee. Now, Campbell heads into his third consecutive NFL season on the injured reserve.
