Union Chhatra League president arrested

Union Chhatra League president Jiban Islam (25) has been arrested by the police at Baliakandi in Rajbari. He is the president of Nawabpur Union Chhatra League of the upazila. On May 21, Baliakandi upazila election, several persons were accused of stabbing and assaulting the house of the chairman candidate, beating with hammer.

Police arrested him from Sonapur Bazar of Nawabpur Union of Upazila around 11 am on Sunday.

Residents said that in Baliakandi Upazila Parishad election, under the leadership of Nawabpur Union Chhatra League president Jiban Islam, upazila chairman candidate Md. Abul Kalam Azad's house was attacked, supporter Syed Ali Azam was cut and injured, hammered, various people were intimidated and created an unstable situation.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Baliakandi police station, Md Alamgir Hossain said, Jiban Islam was arrested around 11 am on Sunday as there was a regular case against him at Baliakandi police station.
