“What is being spread through social media about floods is sad” – the chief advisor of the interim government. Muhammad Yunus made this comment during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma.
The meeting was held on Thursday (August 22) afternoon at the Rashtriya Guest House, Yamuna. This was the first meeting of the Indian High Commissioner with the Chief Adviser.
Later, Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary of the Chief Adviser briefed the journalists in detail.
He said, 'Indian High Commissioner Pranab Verma said about the flood situation in Tripura, India had no idea that there was so much rain. Dr. said it is sad as it is being spread in social media. Yunus.'
The press secretary said, 'Pranab Verma is the first chief adviser. met Yunus. He said that India is always interested in working with Bangladesh. Dr. with India. Yunus has good personal relationships. He also has work with Yunus Center in several universities in India. This good relationship must continue, the beautiful relationship will continue. '
Dr. India-Bangladesh will work on the water distribution agreement in the meeting. The press secretary said that Yunus said.
Chief Adviser's press secretary Shafiqul Alam said, '36 lakh people are flood affected in 10 districts. They are being investigated. He (Chief Adviser) said that such a flood situation has arisen due to heavy rainfall. No missing persons have been found so far.'
The eastern region of Bangladesh has been hit by severe floods. Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Brahmanbaria have reported two deaths so far. One of the two is from Feni and one from Brahmanbaria. So far, 4 lakh 40 thousand 840 families have been waterlogged in these 8 districts.
It has been alleged that such a situation has occurred in Bangladesh due to the opening of the Dambur hydropower project in the Indian state of Tripura. On Thursday afternoon, Interim Government Information Adviser Nahid Islam also blamed India for the flood situation. He said, 'India has behaved inhumanely by opening the dam without any prior warning. There should be a fair solution in this regard.'
However, the Indian government claims that the flood in Bangladesh was not due to the opening of the Dambur hydropower project on the Gomtir river. The country's foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the catchment area of the Gomti River, which flows between India and Bangladesh, has received the highest rainfall this year in the last few days. Flooding in Bangladesh is mainly caused by water from this large catchment downstream of the dam.
