A homeowner’s extravagant take on Christmas decor has left their neighbor, and viewers on TikTok, stunned.
Greer Marley (@greermarley) had taken to TikTok on November 18 to share her neighbor’s lavish holiday display that had stopped her in her tracks. The post, which had been filmed from across the street, captured the homeowner using a large crane to place an enormous Santa Claus hat on their roof.
The short clip has been viewed more than 24.2 million times, with the Alabama homeowner’s playful approach to holiday decor leading to an outpouring of positive comments from viewers online.
Viewers were able to see the crane setting the large red Santa hat that is synonymous with Christmastime on top of the pitched roof, in a symmetrical position. An overlaid text on the video read: “Meanwhile across the street.”
“We really gotta step up our Christmas decor now,” Marley said in the caption.
While the homeowner’s decor is certainly eye-catching, and made for a viral moment, it is not uncommon for people in the U.S. to spend good money on making their home look the part during the holidays.
Findings on Statista revealed that more than 37 percent of respondents in the country planned on spending more than $150 on Christmas decorations in 2023.
Comments
The post has amassed more than 2.5 million likes and almost 20,000 comments since going live, with many viewers sharing their funny takes on the larger-than-life hat. Big brands, from Hallmark Channel to TikTok, also left their thoughts on the decor in the comments.
“Where did they even get that,” one viewer, @themall, said.
Another, @connor_sweeney27, added: “Oh they rich!!”
“Trusting the algorithm to bring us back for part 2,” a third viewer, @disneydoorablesofficial, added.
A fourth, @hallmarkchannel, added: “We are so here for this.”
“Well now I’m curious how the other houses on the block look for the holidays,” another comment read.
The homeowner herself also came across the post online, sharing in the comments that the house is hers.
“It’s my house!!! I’ll show a final result when all is out,” wrote the homeowner, who is known online as @christmasdiy.stuartstyle.
Their comment has been liked almost 150,000 times, and they have continued to react to commenters by encouraging those impressed by the decor to head to their account for further updates.
