Over half a hundred landslides have occurred in the Rohingya camps of Ukhia and Teknaf since last Saturday night.

On Monday (August 19) morning, heavy rains and strong winds caused electricity poles to collapse on the Cox's Bazar Marine Drive road. It is disrupting traffic.

Abdul Quader Gani, Executive Engineer of Cox's Bazar Electricity Department, said that the electricity department is working to normalize the situation. 20 power poles were broken by the storm. It is being removed.

Meanwhile, an old man named Abdus Sukkur (60) was killed in a landslide in Maheshkhali. His daughter Mostafa Khanam (20) was injured in this incident. The accident happened at Jhapua area of ​​Kalamarchara upazila at 10 am on Monday.

On Monday afternoon, the police recovered the body of a young man named Salim from the seagull point of the beach. Deceased Salim is a resident of Rejukhal area of ​​Ukhiya. Sadar police station OC Rakibuzzaman confirmed the matter.

Humayun, a relative of the deceased Selim, said that two days ago, the four brothers went fishing together as a hobby. At this time, Salim went down under the pull of the current. Despite many searches, his body was not found. Later, the body was identified by looking at pictures on Facebook.

Earlier on Sunday morning, three members of the same family were killed in a landslide in Segunbagicha area of ​​Shilkhali Union of Pekua Upazila.

The deceased are Mamtaz Begum (40), daughter Maina Akhtar (12) and grandson Abu Toha (8) of Dubai expatriate Sarwar Kamal of the same area.

Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist of Cox's Bazar Meteorological Department, said that 56 millimeters of rain was recorded in 3 hours from 6 am to 9 am on Monday. Another 194 mm of rainfall was recorded in the previous 24 hours. Heavy rain may continue for another 2 to 3 days, he said.

Cox's Bazar District Commissioner Muhammad Shaheen Imran said that landslides are happening due to heavy rains. 5 people have died in the last two days. At the moment, work is going on to evacuate those who are staying at the foot of the hill. Everyone is requested to take shelter in a safe place.
