9 shops burnt in Shariatpur


At least 9 shops were gutted in a fire at Juttapatti in Shariatpur Angaria Bazar. The aggrieved businessmen have claimed that there has been a loss of about crores of rupees.

On Tuesday (May 7) morning, the fire broke out at Jutapatti in Angaria Bazaar of Sadar Upazila.

According to local and fire service sources, the fire first started from the shoe shop of businessman Masud in Angaria market on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the fire spread to several shops nearby. On receiving the information, the personnel of 2 units of fire service quickly reached the spot. After an hour and a half effort, they were able to bring the fire under complete control. However, before that, 9 shops were damaged by fire.

Aggrieved businessman Shyamal Sheel said that a few days ago I was picking up goods of 3 lakh rupees. Besides, there were many other goods in the store. All my belongings were burnt in the fire. I want help from the government.

Shariatpur Fire Service Station Officer Shyamal Biswas said, we got the information and quickly reached the spot with 2 units. After an hour and a half of efforts, I was able to bring the fire under complete control. 5 shops were completely burnt in this incident. Apart from this, 4 more shops were partially damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) in this regard. Mainuddin said, I visited the place after receiving the news. Work is underway to assess the extent of the damage. The upazila administration will officially support the affected businessmen.
