An old tweet from Donald Trump has resurfaced after it was shared by Jane Adams, a 2024 U.S. House candidate for Nevada.
Adams is a Republican political activist who is “focused on preserving American constitutional rights from corruption,” according to her website. After sharing a screenshot of Trump’s old tweet to X (formerly Twitter), her post went viral.
“I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke,” Trump’s post reads, which he posted on X in 2012.
At the time, Trump called Diet Coke “garbage” while firing off a series of tweets about the beverage. Despite his remarks, the former president has been spotted with the drink numerous times over the years, including at the 2017 G20 summit where a bottle of the soda was spotted tucked against the side of Trump’s chair.
“Are you prepared for another four years of this?” Adams asked in her post as the November election draws nearer. At the time of writing, it had been viewed 7 million times.
Newsweek emailed Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign spokesperson, and Adams for comment on Wednesday.
Like other viral posts that have criticized Trump on the social media platform, Trump supporters took to the comments to defend the politician.
“Over 4 more years of a struggle to live within one’s basic means and endless wars/proxy wars? Yes, in a heartbeat,” one person commented, responding to Adams’ question.
“I’ll take this very old tweet over a person currently falling asleep during a solemn ceremony to honor D-Day, a person paying off college debt instead of healthcare, and a person who needs to be led offstage or reminded that no, Joe, it’s not time to sit down yet,” said another, referring to President Joe Biden.
This comment refers to the fact that Biden’s cognitive critics have raised concerns about whether the 81-year-old remains fit to serve as president.
It also refers to a clip that was circulated that appeared to show Biden with his eyes closed during D-Day ceremonies last week. The Washington Post reported that although Biden closed his eyes briefly while listening to a live translation, he opened them shortly after the edited clip ended and there is no evidence that he slept through portions of the Normandy events.
“I’m ready, and so are the countless Americans who are struggling to put food on the table, afford housing, and save for retirement. Meanwhile, all we’ll hear from the left is abortion, abortion, abortion,” a third person wrote.

Other X users said they wouldn’t vote for Trump but are finding the options they’re being presented with at the upcoming election difficult.
“I will NEVER EVER vote for this,” one person wrote.
“Ive seen the same people that clapped for obama now clap for him,” someone else commented. “The inability to think independently is what irritates me most.”
“The alternative has its own problems. I’m just tired,” a third person said.
Someone else pointed out the amusing aspect of Trump’s post, writing: “It’s funny because he drinks Diet Coke.”
Trump’s love for the beverage has been well-documented. He is known to love Diet Coke so much that he had a button installed in the Oval Office that was said to alert a butler to bring him the drink.
In an Associated Press report about memorable moments from Trump’s first year in office, reporter Julie Pace discussed how she saw the “Diet Coke button” in action. She described how when he pressed the button, a “White House butler walked in with a single glass of Diet Coke on a silver tray for the commander in chief.”
Political observers view the 2024 election as one of the most important in modern history, as Biden and Trump, the presumptive Democratic and Republican presidential nominees, are set to face off in a rematch of 2020. The two have sparred over issues such as the economy, abortion rights and democracy as the election season continues to heat up.
