Murder case against journalist couple Shakeel-Rupa

Former head of news of private television station Ekatar Television Shakil Ahmed and former principal correspondent Farzana Rupa have been arrested in a murder case by Uttara Purba police station after they were detained from Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport.

The journalist couple went to the airport to catch a Turkish Airlines flight early Wednesday morning to go to Paris, France via Istanbul. Their flight was at 6:20 am.

Later, both of them were taken into police custody from there.

Later in the evening, a message from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that Shakeel Ahmed and Farzana Rupa were arrested in a murder case of Uttara Purva police station. Immigration authorities at the airport detained them and handed them over to DB.

The case was filed at the Uttara East police station on Wednesday. Charges have been filed under Sections 302, 114 and 109 of the Penal Code.

Incidentally, Shakil and Roopa were dismissed from their jobs on August 8 by the Ekatar television authority. This journalist couple has a daughter.
