Colts QB Anthony Richardson Trashed By Bengals Defenders Following Joint Practice

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson will enter his second season in the league after an injury-riddled rookie season. Richardson showcased his prowess in his rookie season, although it was only for a limited number of games.

Nonetheless, he showed that he can play in the NFL, and while his 2023 season ended abruptly, fans are now excited to see what he’s got in store for them in 2024.

However, if it’s anything like what he showcased during Tuesday’s joint practice against the Cincinnati Bengals, that’s a bad sign for future things.

Multiple Bengal defenders trashed Richardson after a poor joint practice, during which he spent more time running than throwing. Bengal defenders didn’t mince words when they trashed the former Florida Gator.

“Throw the ball, bro!” yelled Bengals defensive tackle B.J. Hill, via The Athletic.

“Is that all he does is run?” added cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt, who yelled his barb in the direction of Colts fans who were in attendance.

Bengals safety Geno Stone added that Richardson doesn’t even see receivers down the field.

“He’s just throwing to spots,” said Stone. Stone yelled this at a different point in practice. “He doesn’t see his receivers.”

When Richardson did throw, it was to wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who was not on the same page on a comeback route, which led to a deflection and an interception by linebacker Logan Wilson.

In the joint practice, Richardson went 10-for-20 with one touchdown. While he struggled mightily, Richardson had some bright spots, including his touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, who pulled down the football between a pair of Bengals defenders.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen still has confidence in his sophomore quarterback and noted that his starting offense will be on the field in the second quarter of their preseason finale against the same Bengals team.

“I think it’ll be really good for (Richardson),” Steichen said. “Any time you can get out there in those game-like situations, it’s good. Obviously, you want to be smart with these guys in the preseason because we’ve got a long season ahead of us, but we’re excited to get those guys out there.”

Richardson is coming off a rookie season in which he only played four games and recorded a 2-2 record, 50 completions for 577 yards, completed 59.5 percent of his passes, three touchdowns, and one interception with an 87.3 passer rating.
