Burial in Gaibandha with state dignity of Sabuj, who was killed in Sudan


Sabuj Mia (28), a child of a poor family of Gaibandha, is one of the six Bangladeshis who were killed in a terrorist drone attack on the base of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Sudan, Africa.

That green Mia was brought to her district Gaibandha by helicopter. The status of hero has been given by the army.

Sabuj's body was brought down at a helipad in Sadar Upazila's Tulsighat area at 9:30 am on Sunday (December 21). Meanwhile, hundreds of eager people gathered to have a glimpse of the green.

Earlier on Saturday (December 20) morning, the bodies of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers who were killed in a terrorist drone attack on the peacekeeping mission base in Sudan arrived in the country.

The flight carrying the body of the peacekeepers landed at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. This information was confirmed in a press release by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The helicopter carrying Sabuj Mia's coffin was supposed to arrive at the Tulsighat helipad of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila at 9:30 am on Sunday (December 21), but due to adverse weather conditions, the body reached the helicopter around 2 pm.

From there, the body was taken by ambulance to Bhagmanpur village of Palashbari upazila, Mahdipur union. He was buried at the family cemetery around 3:30 pm. Meanwhile, a heart-rending scene took place.

Farid Mia, the cousin of the deceased, said, “Sajub was the only person who could earn money in a poor family. He lost his father at the age of two and became an orphan. At a very young age, he started working as a civilian laundromat in the army. He had a dream that he would come back to the country and take care of his family regularly if he was a little self-sufficient in that mission in Sudan.”

“He got married only 17 months ago. His wife also became a widow at this age. And his old mother was left alone. The only thing he said all day was, 'Give me whatever you want,'” said Farid.

Anwar Mia, the uncle of the victim said, “I raised him from his childhood after his father died. I only know what he suffered. He had a strong desire to get a job, and God fulfilled that desire. Again, God took him away like this. We are going crazy after losing our father (Sabuj).”

Palashbari upazila executive officer Sheikh Jaber Ahmed, who was present at the time of the burial, said, “After the army gave a guard of honor to Sabuj Mia, they were buried at the family cemetery at 3:30 p.m. According to the next decision, the government will take all measures.”

The deceased Sabuj Mia is the son of the deceased Habidul Mia of Purbapara of Bhagmanpur village in Mohdipur union of Palashbari upazila.

Gaibandha Army Commander Alvi Islam said, “We received Sabuj Mia's body and buried her in her village house with due dignity.”

The drone attack in Sudan killed six peacekeepers and injured nine peacekeepers. Eight of them are undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
