The Department of Environment has filed a case against the two accused after the news about hill cutting in Dinarpur, a hilly area of ​​Habiganj's Nabiganj Upazila.

On August 16, various newspapers including Daily Samakal published news about hill cutting in Nabiganj. It is mentioned in the news – Dinarpur pargana consisting of Debpara, Ghaznaipur and Paniumda union of the upazila. It is known as the hilly region of the upazila. In 2017, the High Court ordered to take necessary measures to preserve all the hills and hills of the district. But ignoring the instructions of the High Court, an unscrupulous gang has been cutting the hills in different parts of Dinarpur area for most of the year. Recently visiting the area, it was learned that a mountain was cut in Shatak village of Ghaznaipur union of the upazila from last Sunday (August 11). A local team under the supervision of contractor Sohel Mia of Putizuri area of ​​Bahubal Upazila is cutting the soil with excavators. Later, the soil is being filled in trucks and sold in Athangiri area of ​​Sadar Upazila of Moulvibazar. Due to the cutting of the hill, the surrounding houses are in a dangerous condition. A major accident is expected at any time. Locals have submitted a written complaint to the Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) seeking redress for the ban on hill cutting. Oli Mia, Mubed Mia, Aminur Rahman and Pabel Ahmed, residents of Shatak village, filed this complaint jointly.

After the publication of the news, under the guidance of the Ministry of Forest and Environment, the Inspector of Environment Department of Habiganj. Mominul Islam visited the spot.

The investigation of the case was given to the office of the Deputy Director of the Department of Environment.

Tofazzal Sohel, general secretary and central executive member of Bangladesh Environment Movement (Bapa) Habiganj branch, said that the responsibility does not end when the Environment Directorate files a case, if the officials are transferred, when new officials join, the movement with the old files stops, so this should not happen. After filing the case, the Department of Environment should conduct a thorough investigation and ensure maximum punishment to the person involved in environmental destruction. As they work to protect the environment, they expect the officials to be focused on protecting the environment.
