AB party got registration with eagle symbol

Finally the Election Commission (EC) has registered my Bangladesh Party or AB Party on the orders of the court. The registration symbol of the group is the eagle. With this, the number of registered parties in the country stood at 45.

EC Secretary Shafiul Azim issued a notification registering the party on Wednesday (August 21).

It has been mentioned that the Election Commission has registered my Bangladesh Party (AB Party) as a political party as per the writ petition judgment and public representation order of the High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court until re-ordered. The Eagle symbol has been reserved for that team and its registration number is -050.

According to the People's Representation Order, in order to obtain registration, any party has to establish an active central office with a central committee, at least one-third of the district offices and at least 100 upazila offices, each of which has at least 200 voting members. Before the 12th National Assembly elections, the Commission issued a public notice to register new parties in 2023. At that time, AB Party applied for registration. Survived in the preliminary selection, but was dropped from the list in the final selection due to lack of accuracy in the information.

Then on August 8 that year, the party applied for a review to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal. On that day, AB Party's joint convener and Supreme Court lawyer, Advocate Tajul Islam, told reporters at the election hall that the charges brought against AB Party do not actually exist. We have committees at all levels. I have fulfilled all the conditions. But while verifying these, the EC officials saw our house ownership papers instead of our office rent papers. So it happened because of overzealous officials.

Former leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (member of Majlis Shura) and former chairman of National Board of Revenue FM Solaiman Chowdhury is the convener of AB party. Besides, the former president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Mojibur Rahman Manju, is the party's member secretary.
