Andy Reid Provides Massive Update on Multiple Chiefs Offensive Players Before Opener vs Ravens

The Kansas City Chiefs will open their bid to become the first-ever team in the Super Bowl era to three-peat this coming week against the Baltimore Ravens. Kansas City took down Baltimore in the AFC Championship Game, making this matchup one of the better contests on the entire NFL schedule this year.

The Chiefs have been dealing with some injuries through the preseason, but they may be getting some big reinforcements before the season opener. Head coach Andy Reid gave an update on a few players who just signed with the team: wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and running back Samaje Perine.

Reid said both players could play against the Ravens if all goes well.

“Yes, absolutely, I think so,” Reid told reporters Friday. “I’ve just gotta see with Perine on where he’s at and picking everything up. I’m not gonna put him in a bad position, obviously, but I think he’s gonna be fine. He’s been in here cranking away, so we’ll see how everything goes.”

Getting both guys onto the field could be huge for the Chiefs, especially Smith-Schuster. Kansas City will already be without star wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, who is dealing with an injury.

Smith-Schuster comes over to Kansas City after leaving them last offseason for the New England Patriots. He wasn’t very effective in New England but will look to pick up where he left off with the Chiefs.

The veteran wideout caught 78 passes from star quarterback Patrick Mahomes for 933 yards and three scores. He seemed to have nice chemistry with Mahomes, and the two can build on that once again this year.

Playing the Ravens, Kansas City will need to be on their A-game. Baltimore will be out to prove they are the best team in the AFC.

“We look forward to this challenge of playing the Ravens — they’re a heck of a football team,” Reid said. “John (Harbaugh) does a great job, along with his coaches, of preparing their guys, and we know it will be a battle royal. It’s one of those games we’ve played over the years and it’s always been a knock-down, drag-out.”

The new NFL season is almost here, and with it, new challenges are coming. But for the Chiefs, their challenge is staying at the top of the mountain as everyone else tries to drag them down.
