Case of 5 Palestinians against Germany

Five Palestinians sue the German government for supplying weapons to Israel. The Palestinians living in Gaza filed the case through their representative in Berlin.

The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, a non-governmental organization representing five Palestinians, said in a statement on Friday that the complaint seeks “withdrawal of the export license issued by the German government to supply arms to Israel.”

A spokesman for Berlin's administrative court said it received the complaint on Thursday night. The five plaintiffs live in different parts of the Gaza Strip, including Rafah.

The spokesman said the Palestinians were “challenging the approval of the supply of anti-tank weapons” and “wanting to stop the supply of those that have not yet been approved.”

He said the complaint has been directed against the Finance Ministry, which now has two weeks to respond.

The plaintiffs say Berlin is failing to meet its obligations under international law, including the 1948 UN Genocide Convention.
