Doctors are gathering at Shaheed Minar with three-point demand

Doctors are gathering at Central Shaheed Minar as part of the 'March to BMDC' programme, protesting the consideration of medical assistants who have passed MATs, DMF, LMF as 'Diploma Medical Practitioners' by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC).

General doctors and medical students started gathering at its central Shaheed Minar under the banner of the society from 10:30 on Wednesday (August 21). They also demanded removal of BMDC officials.

The demands of the doctors are to ensure that no one except those with a minimum MBBS or BDS degree can use the title of doctor. To ensure recognition of medical diploma holders as medical assistants as per BMDC Act. Ensuring necessary action as per BMDC Act against prescribers out of 73 medicines prescribed for Medical Assistants.

Doctors say that BMDC has considered medical assistants who have passed MATs, DMF, LMF as 'Diploma Medical Practitioners'. We strongly condemn this and come to this program today as a fight for our existence and rights. From here our delegation will go to BMDC and convey our demands to them.

Regarding the program, the convenor of Bangladesh Doctors' Foundation Dr. Md. Shahed Rafi Pavel said, we had initially planned to gather at BMDC. But there the diploma holders also gave a counter program. We can see that many people are trying to catch fish in murky water around this program. Some people want to make this movement of general doctors and students of the country a conspiracy of Awami League. We want the doctors and students not to get any dirt in the movement for their rights which closes the way for the future.

He said, I hope that this government, including the leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement, will express solidarity with the demands of general doctors and students of the country. We want everyone's cooperation.
