Doctors' 'Complete Shutdown' program suspended

Doctors have suspended the program of complete shutdown. They suspended the announced program after getting the assurance of arresting the attackers within 24 hours.

The doctors made this announcement after a meeting with Health and Family Welfare Advisor Nurjahan Begum at the Secretariat on Sunday. In the meeting, they announced the suspension of the strike till 8 pm on Monday.

Earlier, the Health Adviser came to Dhaka Medical College Hospital to discuss with those on strike to protest the attack and demand security.

In this meeting in the room of Brigadier General Asaduzzaman, director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah of anti-discrimination student movement were also present.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital was attacked and beaten in three rounds on Saturday night. After that, the intern doctors stopped working at night. As other doctors also joined in their strike, medical services were stopped in all departments of the hospital from Sunday morning. Besides Dhaka, doctors also went on strike in other parts of the country. Patients suffer as a result.

Apart from arresting and punishing the attackers, the doctors made two demands including ensuring the safety of doctors and patients across the country. But in the afternoon, six point demands were announced by announcing 'complete shutdown' in all medical centers across the country due to non-compliance.

The four-point demand of intern doctors is-

1. Arrest and trial of criminals in attack on doctors in Dhaka Medical Hospital.

2. Within 24 hours, the army should be deployed in all district upazila and divisional hospitals of the country including Dhaka Medical and full-time law and order forces should be kept in arms.

3. In future, independent health police should be appointed within 7 days to provide security to doctors and hospitals.

4. The Health Protection Act should be implemented quickly.

In the meantime, 2 platoons of BGB have been deployed in Dhaka Medical College (DMH) Hospital for the security of doctors.
