Heavy to very heavy rains may occur in eight divisions of the country on Sunday (May 26) under the influence of Cyclone Remal, the Meteorological Office said.
This information was stated in the special notification number 8 of the Meteorological Department on Saturday evening. Heavy (44 to 88 mm) to very heavy (more than 89 mm) rainfall with gusty winds may occur in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions under the influence of the cyclone.
According to the special weather bulletin, the deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjacent west-central Bay of Bengal has moved northward and intensified into Cyclone Remal. It was 455 km southwest of Chittagong seaport, 400 km southwest of Cox's Bazar seaport, 405 km south of Mongla seaport and 365 km south of Payra seaport at 6 pm.
It may move further north and intensify. Currently in North Bay of Bengal and adjacent East Central Bay of Bengal area (18.8°N latitude and 89.5°E longitude).
Due to the impact of the cyclone, the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and their remote islands and low-lying areas of Char are 3-5 feet higher than normal tide. May be inundated by rushing tides.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to remain in safe harbor till further orders.
