Helicopter carrying Iran's president crashes


A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi has crashed. The country's state media Irna reported this information.

On Sunday (May 19), President Raisi attended the inauguration ceremony of a dam in Azerbaijan province. While returning from there, the helicopter crashed on landing in Varjakan area.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian, Governor of East Azerbaijan Province Malek Rahmati, Tabriz Friday prayer leader Hozzatoleslam Al Hashem and some other officials were in that helicopter.

IRNA representative said that rescue workers and relief teams have been sent to the area. A search is on for them. However, due to the foggy weather and remoteness of the area, the search has to be accelerated.

The report also said that Iran's Red Crescent Society, army and police personnel have been sent there to search for the helicopter. Locals said that due to the foggy conditions, the surrounding conditions could not be seen.

Iran's Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi told state television channels by telephone that a helicopter carrying the president's fleet back from Jolfa encountered difficult conditions while landing.

He further said that the rescuers have been sent to the area, due to bad weather nothing is visible.
