Land officer in jail with wife in ACC case


The court has sent union land assistant Salim Reza (45) and his wife Afroza Begum (42) to jail in the case of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of obtaining wealth outside of known income and concealing information.

Judge Mohammad Waliul Islam of Pabna District and Sessions Judge Court gave this order on Tuesday (August 20) around 1 pm. Salim Reza is the son of Zahir Uddin of Char Joknala village of Saguna union in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj district. At present he is a resident of Machumpur Mohalla of Sirajganj Municipality.

ACC Public Counsel (PP) Khandkar Zahid Rana of Pabna District Judge Court said that Salim Reza and his wife Afroza Begum appeared in the court and applied for bail. Later, after the hearing, the court rejected their plea and ordered to send them to jail.

ACC Pabna district office sources said that in 2022, Salim Reza was accused of acquiring illegal wealth through bribery and corruption. In view of this complaint, ACC started searching his assets. Later on March 3 of this year, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Ferdous Raihan Baksi filed two separate cases against union land officer Salim Reza and his wife.

According to the documents of the case, Salim Reza has acquired and possessed hidden assets worth 53 lakh 47 thousand 924 taka and 45 lakh 72 thousand 450 taka worth of known income in his asset statement.

On the other hand, in the asset statement of his wife Afroza Begum, total immovable assets and immovable assets worth Tk 35 lakh 11 thousand 555 have been acquired and kept in possession of hidden assets and known income of Tk 56 lakh 26 thousand 555.
