Mayor Atiq's request to stop autorickshaws


The Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation has requested Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader to stop all autorickshaws (easybikes) plying in the capital Dhaka. Atiqul Islam

Mayor Atiqul Islam made this request in the first meeting of the advisory council formed under the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority Act-2017 on Wednesday (May 15).

In the meeting, Mayor Atiq requested the Road Transport Minister to draw attention to the violence of easybikes in all parts of Dhaka city and called for a quick step to remove easybikes from the roads of Dhaka.

In the meeting, Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, how can a 20-year-old bus move on the road. The bridge minister also said that if order is not restored on the roads, accidents will never decrease.

At this time, he said that there were many accidents before and after Eid across the country. Many lives have been lost. Many people are permanently crippled. These accidents hurt me as a person. Motorcycles and autorickshaws are the main cause of death in road accidents in our country. There are 7 to 8 people in an autorickshaw. When there is an accident, everyone in the autorickshaw dies. And motorcycles are another nuisance.

The bridge minister said that there are many beautiful roads from the plains to the mountains all over the country. The minister also raised questions about the team work of those concerned.

Shahjahan Khan, president of the Road Transport and Labor Federation, recommended total destruction of expired and junk vehicles instead of dumping them.
