Mehedi Hasan, a resident of Deora village in Banail Union of Mirzapur Upazila in Tangail, worked in a fast food shop on the second floor of the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road. He died along with 46 people in the terrible fire that broke out in the building on February 29. Since then, the family has not yet mourned. Family members are distraught after losing their breadwinner.
According to the family, Mehdi Hasan passed SSC from Mirzapur Kodalia Para High School in 2012. Passed HSC from Lauhati Arfan Khan Memorial Degree College of Delduar Upazila in 2014. He took a job in Dhaka to manage his poor family.
Mehdi's younger brother Israfil Mia said, we two brothers used to work in the same place. Before the fire, I was working on another floor of the building. Later I jumped from the building and survived. Last year we spent Eid with our two brothers and parents. We will never celebrate Eid with my brother. The two brothers wanted to take control of the world together and it will never be fulfilled. I don't know if I can fulfill this dream now. We demand the government to cooperate with us.
Mehdi's father Aynal Haque said, two brothers used to work in Dhaka to run their poor family. The elder son Mehdi had a dream to go abroad. Preparing documents for passport. Mehdi dreamed that he would go abroad and become self-reliant and eliminate the poverty of his family. Everyone will smile.
He said, I am old, can't do anything. I made a loan; The elder son paid the loan amount every month. Who will pay this money now? Mehndi celebrated Eid with us last year. My son will never be able to celebrate Eid with us. How will this family run now? Who will see this family? The head no longer works. Even if Eid comes, we don't have that joy. The boy's mother cries all the time. The boy's mother also fell ill while crying. We request the government to help us.
Mehdi's mother Kalpana Begum said Mehdi was the eldest son. He used to pay all expenses in our family. Who will see this family now? We spent Eid together last year. He used to buy clothes and market for us last year. No one else will come this time.
Saying these things Mehdi's mother bursts into tears. And praying for mehndi.
Mirzapur Upazila Executive Officer Sheikh Nurul Alam said that Mehdi's family has been supported by Tk 10,000 from the upazila administration. We will try to cooperate more.
Meanwhile, local MP Khan Ahmed gave some cash assistance to Shubo Mehdi's family. The family said that he has also promised to give a job to his younger brother.
